UCHOOSE

As we approach the sign-up process for this year, you may be considering your roommate options. To assist with this process, you may want to use "UCHOOSE." UCHOOSE is a new on-line room and roommate resource brought to you by University Housing and University Technology Services'. It allows students, who live on-campus, to "search" for potential roommates, or choose another room or hall.

How does it work?

In short, UCHOOSE is a secure and sophisticated database that allows students to create personal profiles and perform a variety of searches. This resource is available via the University’s secure VIP web site to all the University of South Carolina students who have applied for on-campus housing. You must “add” and “search” profiles under the Fall 2008 term for Spring 2009 potential roommates. To use any part of the UCHOOSE system, you must first go to the VIP web site located at http://vip.sc.edu and log in with your social security number and PIN. The UCHOOSE system is located under the "Personal" tab.

From there, students decide which type of search they’d like to conduct and how closely matched they’d like the returned information to be. UCHOOSE will return a list of "matching" students based on the criteria and information provided.

Once you’ve selected a new roommate or room, you’ll need to contact the main housing office via phone at 803-777-4283 to actually process any change in room or roommate.

Features of UCHOOSE

UChoose your Roommate
Perhaps the most powerful feature for students is the ability to search for potential roommates. By submitting a housing application and creating your "profile," you can search for a roommate based on your criteria.

U Find a Room
This feature is for students who currently live on-campus but would like to change rooms. Students can view a list of residence halls with current openings through the "Hall Availability List."

U Swap with Someone
Students who currently live on-campus and want to "swap" rooms with someone else find help under the "Swap Opportunities" section. The system allows you to search for up to four people who want to swap as a group.

Remember: If you don’t find the matches you’re hoping for right away, wait a few days and try again. Each day, more students are registered in the database. Finally, once you’ve made decision to change, you must contact the housing office to complete the process.
