University 101 Peer Leaders
University 101 Peer Leaders support the successful transition of new students to the University of South Carolina by serving as role models, mentors, and resources within and outside of the UNIV101 classroom.
October - January
Qualified applicants are students with a minimum 3.0 GPA with demonstrated leadership experience.
All first-time peer leaders enroll in EDLP 520: The Teacher as Manager the semester during which they serve as a peer leader for a University 101 course.
Peer Leaders are required to participate in Peer Leader Orientation, a workshop during the spring that gives Peer Leaders the opportunity to explore their role as co-instructors inside the University 101 classroom. Peer leaders are also required to attend Fall Training in late August and Syllabus Preparation and Team-Building Workshops in the spring.
Peer Leaders are required to attend all UNIV101 and EDLP 520 class meetings.
Peer leaders commit to co-instructing a University 101 class, which includes both prep time and in-class instruction. Peer leaders also commit to enrolling in EDLP 520, which meets for an hour and fifteen minutes one day a week during the fall semester. Peer leaders commit to an average of 5-15 hours per week.
