Student Success Center: Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders

Description:

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a learning enhancement program for undergraduate students in designated, historically-challenging courses on campus. SI Leaders, peers who have previously taken the course and excelled, attend class and facilitate three study sessions per week throughout the semester. SI Sessions are open to all undergraduate students, and participants typically develop more efficient methods of studying course material, collaborate with classmates to improve understanding of content, and earn higher course grades. The SI Program supports courses in the following subject areas: BIOL, CHEM, CSCE, EMCH, EXSC, MATH, PHIL, PSYC, and PHYS.

Recruitment date:

Second month of each semester

Qualifications:

SI Leaders are selected through a competitive application process each semester (Fall and Spring). SI Leaders must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher based on at least 15 credits taken at USC-Columbia and must have earned an A in the course(s) they wish to support and was taken at USC-Columbia.

Class requirement:

Must have at least 15 credits taken at USC-Columbia

Training:

Two days before class begins each semester

Meeting time:

Bi-weekly Staff Meetings (twice per month)

Time Commitment:

SI Leaders work approximately 10 hours per week and are hired for one semester-long commitment.
