Faculty-Student Interaction
Mutual Expectations
Mutual Expectations is a program created to help students and university professors gain a deeper understanding of one another. Mutual Expectations bridges the gap between these two groups, serving as one of the first discussions designed to open up the lines of communication among both cohorts. This opportunity encourages students and professors to work together to develop a more collaborative learning environment.
Out-to-Lunch
The Out-to-Lunch program is designed to promote faculty and student interaction outside the classroom. Students can pick up an Out-to-Lunch ticket at any ACE office or University Housing office. Students can then take their professor to lunch for free at any campus dining facility. University Housing and Sodexho Dining Services covers the cost of the faculty member’s meal while, students pay for their own meal using their meal plan, Carolina Card, or cash.
In the past, over 375 students took their professors to lunch during the 2006-2007 academic year, alone. For more information on Out-to-Lunch, visit ACE, online, at: http://www.sc.edu/ace/otl.html.
Dinner Dialogues
Dinner Dialogues started in the Fall of 2006, with the goal of enhancing the interaction between faculty members and their undergraduate students. This experience provides an opportunity for discussion beyond the classroom in an unique setting. Students and professors can discuss academic and current issues; potentially establishing a mentoring relationship that would assist in the students’ personal, career, and professional growth.
