The Office of Student Engagement Announces 2009-2010 Grant Recipient Winners
Columbia, SC (Aug. 31, 2009) - The Office of Student Engagement is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009-2010 Service-Learning Course Development Grant.
Award recipients will receive the Service-Learning Grant for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year. Among a competitive group of applicants, four, full-time faculty members were awarded grants to develop a service-learning course. Each proposal demonstrated a clear connection between course learning outcomes, service-learning and community involvement.
Grant recipients will participate in the Service-Learning Community of Practice facilitated by the Center for Teaching Excellence in the spring of 2009.
The 2009-2010 Service-Learning Course Development Grant recipients are Dr. John Grady, assistant professor in the department of Sport and Entertainment Management, Dr. Mila Parish, associate professor in the department of Theatre and Dance, Dr. Nathan Carnes, associate professor in the department of Instruction and Teacher Education, and Dr. Karen Heid, assistant professor in the Art Department. Congratulations to all of the grant recipients.
The Office of Student Engagement encourages students to engage in learning opportunities that allow for growth and development within and beyond the classroom setting. Through partnerships with a number of academic and student affairs departments on campus, we promote integrative learning and assist students with connecting to University resources and programs including linked courses, service-learning, undergraduate research, The Sophomore Initiative, peer leadership, and the National Student Exchange.
