Timeline for Course Planning

The Office of Student Engagement strongly encourages faculty to begin planning for a domestic study away course 12 to 9 months before the course will take place. This allows for more time to plan and recruit interested students. However, some faculty have been able to do the planning in as little as four months before the course began. The best step though is to plan as far ahead as possible.

Typical DSA courses happen in the following times:

  • Spring semester with travel over spring break.
  • Maymester, with travel happening over the whole Maymester, over long weekends or just during the middle part. It is up to the faculty member.
  • Summer session.

As soon as a faculty member knows they would like to incorporate a domestic travel component into a course they should begin working on the DSA Course Proposal Form and contact the Office of Student Engagement to begin planning.
