Meet the University Housing Staff - Assessment
Sara joined University Housing in June of 2016. She serves as the Assessment Coordinator. Her daily work includes assessing student learning in the residence halls and managing student data. She completed her Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in 2016. She completed her Bachelors in Psychology from Monmouth College in 2014. During her Master’s coursework, she held a graduate assistantship at the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. There she worked with assessment, grants, and research.
Her professional interests include retention and persistence, the first-year experience, and college and career readiness. In her free time she enjoys going to the beach, spending time on her parents’ farm in Illinois, and spending time with her wonderful husband, Joe.
Dr. Sturm comes to the University of South Carolina with over ten years of experience in higher education in areas such as career services, student retention, program development, and statewide program and grant management. She holds an A.S. in Public Service specializing in Criminal Justice Technology from Horry-Georgetown Technical College, a B.S. in Psychology from Coastal Carolina University, a M.S. in Psychology specializing in School Psychology from Capella University, and received a certification of graduate study in Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina. She also earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education from Clemson University.
Her research interests include the student voice, student perception of learning environments, student retention, student diversity, and the first year student experience.
