West (Green) Quad
The West (Green) Quad is the place to live if you want to be at the cutting edge of sustainability on campus! If you’re just starting to be curious about sustainability and the environment, or if you’re already knowledgeable and concerned, the Green Quad will support you in your explorations and involvement. Residents live in a healthy and comfortable “green building,” are able to monitor their own resource consumption, and participate in the programs of the Green Quad Learning Center--films, speakers, service projects, special courses, field trips, and other events. The Green Quad is particularly supportive of student-initiated projects and programs.
The Green Quad is designed to be a model and advocate for sustainability on campus and in the community. We promote interactions among students, faculty, staff, and community members to explore the changes required to create a sustainable society. Our programs, operations, and facilities are all guided by green values and a holistic perspective. The result is a unique “green bubble” within which students are able to begin or continue their journey toward a more sustainable lifestyle!
You have TWO OPTIONS for Living-Learning Communities in West (Green) Quad.
Please be sure you are signing up for the one you are interested in!
#1: GREEN LEARNING COMMUNITY
The Green Learning Community is your option if you’d like to live in a small community of 25-30 students who share a desire to learn more about how to live more sustainably—personally and as a society. Everyone lives together on the same floor and has the opportunity to initiate and participate in special programs. If you’re part of the Green Learning Community, you have opportunities for:
- Attending community dinners
- Taking field trips to places of interest
- Meeting informally with visiting speakers and activists
- Getting priority consideration for living in the West (Green) Quad

#2: WEST (GREEN) QUAD ONLY
Living in the West (Green) Quad is also an option without becoming part of the Green Learning Community. All residents are encouraged to take advantage of the programs sponsored by the West Quad Learning Center and the Hall Government. Residents are expected to participate in the programs that help promote sustainability and green lifestyles. Programs include:
- Service opportunities on campus and in the community
- Information on sustainable lifestyles
- Films and speakers at the Learning Center
- Extensive recycling facilities
