Student Success Initiative (SSI)

What is the SSI?
Introduced in 1995, the Student Success Initiative (SSI) involves intentional discussions and plans developed between residential student staff members (SSMs, RMs, PCs, RTs) and individual students twice a semester. Through the SSI process, University Housing staff is able to know, connect, monitor, and refer students on a more personal basis. This program is designed for first-year and second-year students living on campus.

First-Year Experience Discussion Workbook (PDF document)
Click here to view SSI 1st Year BookletThe First-Year SSI Workbook
The SSI workbook guides student staff and students through a series of four structured, one-to-one conversations. For first-year residents, these conversations include discussions on common first-year student issues, such as transitions, campus involvement, connection to the University, and academic success.

The workbook also includes perforated pages where students and staff members develop plans (First-Year SSI: Expectations, Involvement, Mid-Year, and Next Steps; Second-Year SSI: Goals and Action Plans) and discuss campus resources.

SSI booklets are kept by residential staff members. If you are a student and would like to review your SSI workbook, please speak to your RHD/RLC or the Student Staff Member on your floor.

For sophomore residents, these SSI conversations include discussions on common issues in the second year, such as financial concerns, increasing course difficulties, and finding their place within the University. First year students living on campus will receive a TSI planner near the end of their first year that will help them map out a successful second year at the University of South Carolina.
The TSI calendar is available at: http://www.thezonelive.com/
More information for sophomores can be found at: http://www.sa.sc.edu/tsi/
