First-Year Pre-Law Community
Do you aspire to attend law school? Do you enjoy debating and critically thinking about current issues? Even if the law profession has always been your calling, hard work and perseverance will be required throughout your undergraduate education to reach this goal. Law schools require strong academic and entrance examination (LSAT) performances. Community service, job shadowing and work experience will also enhance your application. University Housing and the Office of Pre-Professional Advising have developed a living and learning community for first-year students that fosters academic success in preparation for law school. If you hope to join the law field, we hope that you will consider applying for this program.
Opportunities for Involvement
The Pre-Law Community offers students access to an array of academic support services including math and writing tutors, computer labs, study sessions, and interactions with legal professionals, faculty, and staff from the Office of Pre-Professional Advising. Students in the community will:

- Participate in community service opportunities related to the legal profession
- Attend lecture series and panel discussions about current public policy and legal issues
- Join study groups tailored to specific courses taken by first-years in the Pre-Law Community

- Enroll in a designated section of a Pre-Law University 101
- Enjoy social programs

How to Apply:
To be considered for admission to the First-Year Pre-Law Community, students must submit both a completed Housing Application and a supplemental application for the Community. Please submit your general Housing application online at https://vip.sc.edu. By completing By completing the learning community application linked below, the First-Year Pre-Law Community becomes your first housing choice and supercedes other housing preferences previously indicated. It is not necessary for your roommate to be a Pre-Law Community student. Because space is limited, you may not be placed into the Community initially; however you may be put on a waiting list for a space as it becomes available. While on the waiting list, your housing assignment will be made based on preferences noted on the standard housing application/contract.
