Music Community
The Music Community fosters a group of well-rounded musicians that aim to better themselves personally, academically, and musically. This community has been structured to allow for music majors and minors to have a traditional on-campus living experience while learning from their fellow musicians.
Opportunities for Involvement
A variety of academic initiatives and community development opportunities will be available for residents living in the Music Community. Examples of these initiatives include but are not limited to:
- The opportunity to enroll in common core courses such as MUSC 100, and appropriate ear training and theory sections
- Offering the option of group attendance of concerts and guest artist presentations at the School of Music
- Creating Field Trips to concerts and other regional cultural events
- Developing Study groups
- Increasing opportunities for faculty/staff-student interaction
- Offering peer tutoring services
- Creating opportunities for Community Service
Is the Music Community for you?
The Music Community consists of first-year students who intend to major or minor in music. Students who desire to grow in their musical skill and overall appreciation for music should consider applying for this community. The Music Community will be located in the McBryde residence hall, which features double rooms and hall baths. McBryde is conveniently located behind the Thomas Cooper Library and is less than a block away from the Russell House Student Union.
.
How to Apply?
To be considered for admission to the Music Community, students must submit both a completed Housing Application and Music Community Application. Space is limited. Please submit your general Housing application online at https://vip.sc.edu. By completing the learning community application linked below, the Music Community becomes your first housing choice and supercedes other housing preferences previously indicated. It is necessary for your roommate to be a Music Community student. Because space is limited, you may not be placed into the Music Community initially. If this happens, you will be put on a waiting list for a space as it becomes available. While on the waiting list, your housing assignment will be made based on preferences noted on the standard housing application/contract.
