Carolina’s Global Community

Carolina’s Global Community is an on-campus residential community designed to bring American students and international students together in a unique living arrangement. This setting provides you the opportunity to learn about other cultures and to share your own culture with others.

Opportunities for Involvement
Residents of Carolina’s Global Community should expect to live in an energetic community. Not only do residents get interact with people from around the world, but they have the opportunity to get involved in a number of activities. A few of the events that have been done in the past are:

  • Canoe/Camping Trips
  • Mall and Wal-Mart carpools
  • Beginning of the year ropes course
  • World food and trivia nights
  • Pool parties at the Strom Thurmond Center
  • Intramural teams
  • Community service projects
  • Thanksgiving feast for International students

Is Carolina’s Global Community for you?
Residents of Carolina’s Global Community have the unique opportunity to experience the world from the comfort of their living room. If you are interested in learning about other cultures, have studied abroad or are considering studying abroad, this is the place for you. Residents of the CGC must have completed at least 60 credit hours to be eligible to live in South Quad. Residents are also required to participate in at least 50% of the activities, plan programs, and attend orientation sessions.

How to Apply
To be considered for the admission to Carolina’s Global Community, students must submit both a completed Housing Application and a Global Community Application. Space is limited. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by February 1, 2008. Please submit your general Housing application online at https://vip.sc.edu. By completing this application, Carolina’s Global Community becomes your first housing choice and supercedes other housing preferences previously indicated. America students also must go through an interview process. Because space is limited, you may not be placed into the Community initially. If this happens, you will be placed on a waiting list for a space as it becomes available. While on the waiting list, your housing assignment will be made based on preferences noted on the standard housing application/contract.
