
Student Event Manager
Job Description
The Capstone Conference Center at the University of South Carolina is a division of University Housing and hosts thousands of guests each year through Summer Conferences and Camps and Special Events. The Capstone Conference Center’s primary focus is to provide services to official University departments and their guests within the University of South Carolina system.
We are seeking current students for a minimum of 10 hours per week for 1-2 year(s) (based on the candidate’s graduation date) beginning fall 2012 to work in the offices of the Capstone Conference Center as Student Event Managers. The focus of this position is to provide event planning, event operations and customer service to guests that schedule/book events with the Capstone Conference Center.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Currently a student enrolled at the University of South Carolina with a HRTM major emphasis
- Interest and coursework in event planning, operations or conference services
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare information for presentations and communication with clients
- Prior event management experience
- Proven experience in managing deadline-driven initiatives
- Ability to multitask and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Demonstrated proficiency using Excel, PowerPoint and Word
There will be an hourly salary with required office hours per week, not including assigned events.
Responsibilities
The Student Event Manager will be responsible for collaborating with the Capstone Conference Center Coordinator with specific responsibility for the following:
- Coordinate scheduled events for rental spaces controlled by the Capstone Conference Center including ballrooms, smart classrooms and conference rooms
- Support day-to-day operations of the Capstone Conference Center Office
- Initiate and provide event planning support to clients, including up selling services and amenities that are offered
- Manage relationships with campus partners and outside vendors
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Currently a University of South Carolina student in good standing
- Interest in event management, event operations and customer service
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare information for presentations and communication with clients
- Prior project management experience
- Ability to follow timelines
- Ability to multitask and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Demonstrated proficiency using Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Required Education
Must be enrolled as a student of the University of South Carolina (undergraduate or graduate levels)
