Publications Design Specialist Information
Duties of Design Specialist: This position will be primarily responsible for graphic design and layout in more than 100 printed materials and marketing campaigns for University Housing. Design Specialists are also involved in brainstorming and writing. Publications include, but are not limited to, notices, calendars, newsletters, brochures, and posters. Multi-media projects may also be included. Design Specialists are responsible for production from conception to print and will work closely with the Publications Graduate Assistant, University Printing, University Publications, and outside printers. The position has the opportunity to gain experience in both design and execution, as well as with media/public relations.
Remuneration: Students may choose to use this position as a paid internship or just a regular paid position. The number of hours required to work will be based on whether on not the internship option is selected. There are positions available for summer, fall and spring semesters.
Skills Required for position: Excellent written, organizational, and oral communication skills are required. Applicants need to be deadline-driven, detail-oriented, and a team player. Design samples and/or portfolios are required with the application (either published material or classwork). Desktop publishing and layout/design experience is required, including design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, and Freehand. Basic photography skills are also helpful.
