Checkout Procedures

Checkout Procedures 


As a student living on-campus, you have two options for checking out of your residence hall. You can use either Standard Checkout or Express Checkout procedures. Failure to use either Standard or Express Checkout procedures will result in an automatic improper checkout charge of $25.

Standard Checkout
  1. Sign up with your RM for a checkout appointment (24 hours in advance).
  2. Prior to your appointment time, remove all belongings from your room and clean the room (and balcony) thoroughly.
  3. At your appointment time, meet your RM to inspect your room and complete the Apartment/Room Condition Report.
  4. Lock the room door(s).
  5. Failure to return your key will result in a lock charge (this varies by building).

Please Note:

  • You can only use Standard Checkout between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Be sure to be on time for your appointment. Failure to do so may result in an automatic improper checkout charge of $25.
  • You will be held financially responsible for any missing items, damages or necessary cleaning.
  • We recommend that you use Standard Checkout if you or your roommate(s) have any questions about damage responsibilities.
Express Checkout
  1. Remove all belongings from the room and clean the room (and balcony) thoroughly.
  2. Lock your room door(s).
  3. Go to your Campus Office and obtain a Key Envelope.
  4. Complete the information on the key envelope and sign it.
  5. Place the key in the envelope, seal it and give it to the Campus Office staff. Failure to return your key will result in a lock change charge (this varies by building).

Please Note:

  • We do not encourage express checkouts. We have Resident Mentors holding the duty phone to assist with express checkouts during the day if you are not able to get an appointment.
  • You will be held financially responsible for missing items, damages or necessary cleaning.
  • Express checkouts should be a last resort.
  • A staff member will inspect your room after your departure to complete na Apartment/Room Condition Report.
Lost or Misplaced Keys

If you have lost a room key, you should still use either the Standard or Express Checkout procedures. Indicate on the key envelope that your key is lost. You will be charged for the lock change (this varies by building)

Cleaning Recommendations

To avoid a cleaning charge after checkout (a minimum of $25 per resident per item), please see that your room is left in the following condition:

Furnishings
  1. All closets and drawers emptied and cleaned
  2. Bed reassembled
  3. Arrange the room to original setup
  4. Wipe off desk with a wet cloth
Bathrooms
  1. Empty and clean medicine cabinet
  2. Clean sink and bathtub
Floors
  1. Sweep or vacuum and mop if necessary
  2. Remove any rug imprint
  3. Do not sweep anything into the hallway
  4. Do not sweep anything off the balcony (Horseshoe)
Doors
  1. Remove all stickers
  2. Remove tape and staples
Walls
  1. Remove all posters, nails and tape
  2. Clean marks off of walls
Windows/Mirrors
  1. Close and lock windows
  2. Remove any stickers from the windows
Kitchen
  1. Clean and defrost refrigerator
  2. Clean oven and stove
  3. Clear and clean cabinets
 
Potential Charges

Some conditions that may result in charges for damages include, but are not limited to:

  • Burn marks
  • Cracked mirrors
  • Cracked windows
  • Dart holes
  • Disassembled furniture
  • Holes in walls/doors
  • Items left in room or on carpet
  • Missing/damaged furniture
  • Missing mattress pad
  • Rented appliances left in room
  • Stickers/decals
  • Tears in mattress
